About EMAC Climate Smart Cooperative Society
EMAC Climate Smart Cooperative Society is a youth-led, member-owned and member-managed cooperative
advancing inclusive, climate-smart poultry agribusiness among young farmers, particularly youth and women
from grassroots, rural, and marginalized communities.
The cooperative is structured around four key pillars of financial inclusion and enterprise development:
1. Access to Capital – through structured loan kits that enable members to venture into poultry agribusi
ness.
2. Capacity Building – through training, education, and hands-on extension services to build agribusiness
entrepreneurship and technical skills in poultry production.
3. Central Aggregation & Post-Harvest Management – through collective aggregation, cold storage,
and coordinated post-harvest handling.
4. Market Access & Value Addition – through EMAC’s own branded butchery and grill outlets, ensuring
stable markets and fair prices for members.
In addition, EMAC is strengthening self-sufficiency and climate resilience by investing in:
Own feed production systems using Black Soldier Fly (BSF) and Azolla at scale, and
Future biogas production and packaging, to be offered as a service product for cooperative members.
EMAC currently operates in Meru County and expanding to Tharaka Nithi County, and has a clear roadmap
to scale nationally as a flagship youth agribusiness cooperative.
Position Summary:
The Technical Operations Manager & Extension Services Officer will play a central leadership and implementation role within EMAC Climate Smart Cooperative Society.
This is a hybrid technical, managerial, and cooperative governance role, combining:
Poultry extension and veterinary services,
.Day-to-day management of cooperative enterprises,
. Oversight of marketing, butchery, grill, and chick distribution outlets, and
. Secretariat and administrative support to the cooperative’s governance structures.
The position serves as the ex-official Secretariat to the Management Committee (Board) and does not sit as
a committee member. The role is responsible for implementing decisions of the Management Committee, maintaining statutory records, supporting member participation, and ensuring operational efficiency across EMAC’s
expanding footprint.
Key Responsibilities
1. Extension Services & Member Support
Provide technical poultry extension services to cooperative members on broiler and improved kienyeji production.
Train members on best practices in feeding, housing, biosecurity, disease prevention, and climate-smart production.
Conduct regular farm and enterprise visits to monitor production cycles and advise members.
Provide timely veterinary and husbandry guidance to reduce losses and improve productivity.
2. Cooperative Operations Management
Manage day-to-day operations of the cooperative and ensure coordination between members, staff, and leader
ship.
Oversee chick distribution (broilers and improved kienyeji) and aggregation of mature birds.
Supervise cooperative staff across production, outlets, and field operations.
Ensure accurate operational records on members, production cycles, deliveries, and sales.
3. Marketing & Enterprise Development
Lead marketing and sales of EMAC poultry products, including live birds, dressed chicken, and grill products.
Develop and implement marketing strategies to grow customer base and strengthen the EMAC brand.
Identify new markets and partnerships to increase cooperative revenues.
4. Butchery, Grill & Outlet Supervision
Oversee operations of EMAC’s butchery, grill, and on-the-go kienyeji chick outlets.
Ensure compliance with hygiene, food safety, and relevant regulatory standards.
Manage quality control, workflows, and staff performance across outlets.
5. Secretariat & Governance Support
Serve as ex-official Secretariat to the Management Committee.
Keep an updated and complete registry of all cooperative members.
Record, prepare, and maintain minutes of Management Committee meetings and monthly members’ meetings.
Transmit decisions of the Management Committee to management and staff for implementation.
Issue and certify membership and voting registers as required.
6. Finance, Payments & Credit Support
Process member payments related to deliveries, services, and cooperative transactions.
Support loan recovery efforts in collaboration with the Credit Committee.
Maintain accurate financial and member transaction records to support accountability.
7. Compliance & Stakeholder Coordination
Ensure compliance with cooperative policies and relevant Kenyan laws and regulations.
Liaise with veterinary authorities, suppliers, regulators, and development partners.
Support planning, reporting, and scaling initiatives as EMAC expands regionally and nationally.
Qualifications & Requirements.
Academic & Professional Qualifications
Licensed Veterinary Officer under Kenyan law.
Certificate, Diploma, or Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Health, Animal Production, Agribusiness, or related fields.
Graduates and post-graduate entrants seeking structured internship-to-employment opportunities are encouraged to apply.
Training in cooperative management, agribusiness, or marketing is an added advantage.
Experience
i, Experience in poultry farming (broilers and/or improved kienyeji) is desirable.
ii, Experience providing extension services, farmer training, or enterprise support is an added advantage.
iii, Prior experience managing agribusinesses, cooperatives, or outlets is beneficial but not mandatory for
early-career applicants.
